Steve from Great Yarmouth is set to run the Great North Run this Sunday. Here is his story and why he is running for Sands.

In 1998, my wife and I lost our baby via a miscarriage at 12 weeks, and despite the fact we have had 4 amazing children since then, we will always grieve the one we lost. In 2015 we lost our granddaughter when our daughter in law was 18 weeks pregnant.

Training

What has been your biggest challenge while training?

I work in Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, and my job requires a lot of irregular hours, travel and stays in hotels, so getting into a regular training pattern has been difficult. Outdoor running any distance also challenging due to the warm climate.

What are you most looking forward to about being part of the Great North Run?

The entire experience. I started running 18 months ago to lose weight after a health scare, and entered the 2017 GNR as a goal to achieve and keep me on plan. The motivation from the crowds and the atmosphere of the event kept me going and made me determined to go back and do it again.

What is your expected fundraising target?

£1000

What is your expected finishing time?
